Putting a new SSD

I'm plannning to buy a new SSD, since samsung 840 Pro 128gb is expensive for me , so I'm gonna get the samsung 830 128gb. I already have an SSD which is Crucial M4 128gb which is almost full, I like SSD because it of it's faster loading times specially when playing online games (respwn will takes much tim on HDD).


My question is that since I have already installed a windows 8 OS on my Crucial M4 SSD, should I just connect my samsung 830 to my motherboard and when I start my PC, will it automatically detect it?


Also, if any of you have using samsung 830 on Win8, is there a new frimware update for win8? I can only see in their site for only on Win7, no Win8.

First off, you could go with the 830 or the normal 840 (not the pro) as they perform about the same. I'd suggest getting whichever one is cheaper.

As for connection, your OS will automatically detect the SSD as long as it's plugged in and has power, just make sure you have AHCI mode turned on in your BIOS for maximum speed.

Lastly, the firmware for the device is not specific to an operating system. To be precise, the firmware is the software within the device that allows the hardware of the device to operate. Again, not specific to any single Operating System. It's probably only listed as "Windows 7" because that's what the Samsung Magician software suite was originally designed for but it'll work on Windows 8.

Hello hedgehogpie, I would say that the 830 should automatically be detected, A new drive is usually detected. If it isn't detected, you may have to fiddle with the BIOS a bit, but I'm pretty sure that you wont.

As for firmware, I haven't seen anything... however, there are multiple driver updates for Windows 8 from the GPU manufactures.
