Hello, so now have an hp compaq desktop with a crappy intel motherboard in it.
My motherboard supports ADD2 only (It was written next to the pcie slots). It has 3 pcie x16 slots but they supports add2 only and i tried putting a gtx 210 on it and it didn't work.
There is a pcie x1 slot that i put a geforce 8400gs in.
So i want to upgrade the graphics card from 8400gs to a GT640 but the problem is the gt640 is a pcie x16 gpu..i was wondering if i cant put a pciex16 on a x1 slot so i saw a few videos that people are cutting the limit of the pcie x1 and enters in it a pciex16 gpu..and i would like to do that too on my motherboard..but will it decrease the gpu perfomance in games if i put an pcie x16 gpu on a pcie x1 slot?
(Sorry for my bad english)

A PCIe x16 GPU will not work like that.

The adapter merely changes the physical length and notching of a PCIe x1 slot, but does not (and cannot) increase the bandwidth from x1 to x16.

A PCIe x16 GPU requires a native (ie a "proper") PCIe x16 slot. There is no way around that.

Should become clearer if you read the customer reviews of such a device:

Hey and thanks for your reply. So this Adapter should make the x16 pcie gpu work on my x1 slot? and will it affect the gpu's perfomance if i do it?
Also, will this adapter work too?
