I would really appreciate it if anyone here could answer me this question. I am using a AMD Athlon Slot A 800MHz. Recently, I have removed my h/s from my CPU. I was wondering if I'm to now put the h/s back together with the CPU, will the thermal paste still works? I heard that the thermal paste is basically used to fill in the small voids on the surface of the h/s, so if that's the case, it should still work right? BTW, the thermal paste has hardened and I heard that it will soften when the CPU heats up, so does that mean that there will still be good thermal contact between the h/s and CPU?
Thanks guys.... :)

The rules are always the same. Always use a thermal compound. If you re "REINSTALLING", clean the processor and the Heatsink surfaces completely. That is a subject of its own. Carefully reassemble, using a new application of the thermal compound of your choice and double check work before energizing the circuits.

Two flat surfaces are to make contact under usually spring tension. Lap the heatsink so that you know it is perfectly flat. That is another seperate subject.

Signature? We don' need no stinkin' signature!
