I am no expert in the field, but have been messing around with an old computer that has a 32 bit OS on it. I would like to reformat the hard drive and put linux on it through a USB drive. This computer is not connected to the internet. I just would like to know if this is possible. I have done some searching and mostly getting returns of dual booting and being connected to the internet in order to install linux.

Like I said I am no expert and this computer is very old. I am just messing around with it to practice and get more of an understanding.

Thanks for any help,

Chad

Any recent Linux Distro (e.g. Ubuntu) has the toosl to make bootable USB drive. it's another question whether your computer supports that, so you might be restricted by CD/DVD boot.

Technically, you don't need Internet during installation, but having your computer connected will help you get additional applications.

Definitly possible and a great way to introduce yourself to linux. Make sure you use a lightweight 32 bit version. I would suggest puppy (most lightweighgt but very very barebones) or linux mint lxde 32 bit.

We can't really tell you what you need exactly without some hardware specs. Any ideas? (Ram and HDD size are most important, as stillblue said.)
