Hey everyone!
So finally I’ve collected enough funds to put together a medium budget gaming built.
Looking to game at 1440p max. Not fancy 4K required. So, good monitor recommendations are welcomed. 27-30inches
Long story short, I’ve selected these two groups. Feel free to inform me about bottlenecks, overkills etc.

Group 1 (A little over my budget)

Processor - Intel Core i7 8700
SMPS - Corsair V750/CX750
Aircooler - Hyper EVO
Cabinet - 570X
Motherboard - HELP! My knowledge about motherboards is now dated. Please give good recommendations
RAM - Corsair Dominar platinum DDR4 8x4GB
Keyboard - ASUS Cerberus/HyperX
SSD - Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
HDD - WD Black 2TB
Graphics - ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti AMP! Edition 8GB

Group 2 (more practical)

Processor - Intel Core i5 8500
SMPS - Corsair V750/CX750
Aircooler - Cooler master MASERAIR
Cabinet - NZXT S340Elite
Motherboard - HELP! My knowledge about motherboards is now dated. Please give good recommendations
RAM - Corsair Vengeance DDR4 8x2GB
Keyboard - ASUS Cerberus/HyperX
SSD - Samsung T3 250GB
HDD - WD Blue 2TB
Graphics - ZOTAC GTX 1070 6GB

Thank you so much in advance. I just want to show off the built tastefully. The final built can be a combination of these two as well. But monitor and mobo recommendations needed badly.

1. use pcpartpicker.com, its easier to build and get pricing
2. id recommend using the EVGA g3 series power supplies. they are a little better than those corsair ones. power is important.
3. hyper 212 evo isnt a good cooler for an i7. runs a little hot imo.
4. the samsing t3 in build 2 is an external drive, you cant use that. stick with the 860 evo either way since it's a great drive.
5. make sure the WD blue drive is 7200 rpm your looking at. otherwise get the black. they are faster, more reliable and have a better warranty.
6. i doubt you'll be happy with a 1070 at 1440p if your planning to play AAA titles on max like fallout 76. i have a 1080 at 1440p and i still want more fps. you may want to consider raising your budget or lowering your expectations.
7. the i7 is going to be better for max 1440p as well.
8. ram just depends on budget but both ones are fine that you picked.
9. keyboard is preference.

give me your budget amount before tax and i'll make you something on pcpartpicker. make sure you let me know the currency your using. ill recommend a mobo there as well.

Hey N3rdR4ge,

This will be great. The currency will be INR and my budget is around Rs. 1,50,000. I guess I'm okay with 1080p if you still want more fps with your gtx 1080.

Rather than an 8500 in the second build, an 8400 would be a more cost-effective option, and would get you virtually identical performance. The 8500 costs over 10% more, but its boost clocks are only 0.1GHz higher, making it at most only about 2% faster in applications, which would be completely unnoticeable. Gaming at 1440p, your performance will be mostly limited by the graphics card, so that should make no real difference in frame rates. See the performance summary charts in this review of the 8500, for example...

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i5_8500/19.html

Even though they're testing with a 1080 Ti, which will exaggerate the CPU performance differences compared to lower-performing cards, they only saw a 0.5% difference in frame rates between an 8500 and an 8400 at 1440p, and even an 8700K was on average only around 2% faster than an 8400 in games at that resolution. At higher resolutions like 1440p, there actually tends to be less need for a faster processor, since the graphics card will be pushing lower frame rates, and the CPU only needs to keep up with that.

Maybe the 8700's Hyperthreading could potentially help performance in some games being released a few years down the line, but right now a 6-core i7's performance benefits when gaming at higher resolutions are questionable, unless perhaps you are live-streaming your gameplay or something, and can use those extra threads for encoding. Otherwise, for 1440p gaming, it might be better to go with an 8400 for the processor, and put the money saved toward the best graphics card you can manage.

for 1440p you want something like this within your budget

to truly max out all settings at 1440p you need a gtx 1080 ti though, so you may need to tweak settings on some games

I see a lot of you are recommending me to go higher up in the GPU range or lower down my expectations for 1440p gaming. So there’s only one way I can invest more in the GPU, by using atleast some parts of my existing system.
It’s an old system. Here the specs, please tell me if there’s something which can be carried forward like processor or something and still won’t have any noticeable effect on gaming.
Motherboard - Gigabyte H97m D3H
Processor - Intel Core i5 4460
PSU - Corsair VS650
RAM - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16GB
GPU - Leave that severely outdated.
HDD - WD Blue 1TB

Please let me know if something can be utlised from this system provided they’re all working perfectly right now. If that’s possible I can go for GTX 1080 or maybe 1080ti, if there are no bottleneck issues.
