I've been playing the game and anytime I get two Sims married, they party
for a bit and then a limo comes and takes them away for a while. Is THAT a
honeymoon?

I guess so. It's only a few hours, but at least they come back with
their bars all greened up.

Funny... any of the weddings that I've had, a limo never showed up...
strange.

Yes. Too bad it is not more exciting! It only happens if you select the
party, not if they marry without a party. Not sure if it happens if the
party is boring. I have never had it with any other party either, no
matter how great.

It's quite easy =)
The trick is: talk to *everybody* from the beginning to the end of the
party. If a conversation looks "too long", stop it and go talk to another
guest.

True, I have found the social need to be the one that makes or breaks a
party. While people do expect food and access to a bathroom within
reasonable time, neither this nor entertainment will make a party
acceptable.
My trick is to carefully select the guests that I believe will be most
compatible, so that they will socialize with each other as well as the
host. Sims that are extremely nice but only moderately outgoing also seem
to do well ... they neither make fun of the other guest nor try to embrace
them on first sight.

Whenever I've thrown a party, I usually have family members there. I guess
you don't really have to mingle with them as much.

If you really want a good party and not one that is accomplished in a
certain fashion, (i.e. a sim party that resembles an actual party, rather
than a cynical ploy to gain aspiration points or something) have your sims
wander around playing red hands with everyone. Give everyone a chance to go
to the bathroom and eat, but if they're standing around, run over and play
red hands. This works all the time for me.
