Hi there,

in the ufo4vpa doc it says that ufo4vpa does not support versions of vpa
newer than 3.51e. I tested it for some turns with vpa 3.62a but did not get
any errors.

Can anyone tell me if you can expect difficulties using ufo4vpa with 3.62a
(or maybe you think it is not needed)?
Perhaps there are modifications needed to the ini files?

Mark.

I've been using it for several games now and it worked without error -
but the only benefit left by now is the fleet summary compiled. And this
will be done better by programmes like (the arguably old) fleets.

If you need an urgent reply, replace newsgroups by vgap.

Why is this the only benefit. To my knowledge vpa 3.62a still doesn't age
minefield while ufo4vpa does...

You mean for example you saw an enemy minefield last turn, but have no
info on it this turn, so ufo4vpa calculates how large the field would
be after decay?

I don't think vpa *wants* that. The enemy may have scooped his field
or added to it. So vpa just displays the info that it really knows and
adds a comment that it is info from one turn old.

Yep, I think so. PCC does it, too, but last time I looked, VPA did not
do it.

Objection, your honor.

Even if everything you know is that "there were 500 mines three turns
ago", you know that, if nobody touched the mines, there are now a few
less than before. This information is still 3 turns old, because you do
not know whether anybody touched the mines. But you know for sure that
decay happens.

So having mine decay is a good thing, IMHO. Actually, it was one of the
first things I implemented in PCC, because at that time I didn't yet use
"Mine sweep" too often. Hmmm, actually PCC didn't even recognize Mine
sweep messages that time. It only recognized "Minefield laid" messaged,
because I happened to play Crystals, who usually lay minefields instead
of sweeping them 🙂
