Alright now the tuniq tower 120 is easily one of the best heatsinks available right now, i highly doubt that i mounted it wrong and i applied the AS5 just like the site says. So i boot it up and at stock speeds my q6600 is reading 40c, 38c, 37c, 40c. Why is this... at idle my q6600 at stock speeds is idling at 40c? My tuniq tower 120 is at max fan rpm which imo is very annoying. I am using a antec 900 case with all fans on medium except the 200mm fan which is on high. At load i am at 57c, 50c, 51c, 57c. Basically my question is it possible that i got a bad q6600? should i try to exchange it for a g0 stepping or could it be that coretemp v0.94 (0.95 crashes my pc) is reading my temps wrong. Speedfan matches coretemp with a 15c offset. In bios it only shows cpu temp which it shows around 28 c. Bios isnt showing the temps of each core so i cant tell.

Sounds high to me also. Your getting 40C with no OC at all and your not stress testing it....it's at idle? What does your bios say for Vcore at the 2.4 Ghz speed?

I'll give you some of my data: I'm running a very similar system. I've got a Q6600 GO, Tuniq Tower (lapped) on a Abit IP35 Pro and my stock temps were between 28 - 30C at no load. My initial boot Vcore was I think 1.05v (that's pretty low...might be because of the GO stepping; I dunno).

With my system OC'd to 3.0 GHz, my idle temps are 38-40C as reported by Coretemp .95 (which agrees with Speedfan w/offset 15C). At this OC, my chip only needs 1.250v. If your Vcore is somewhere around there, then it might explain the 40C temps your seeing.

I'd check the mounting of the Tuniq one more time and the other thing I did that a lot of folks are swearing by is I lapped the bottom of the Tuniq Tower. It was pretty easy for a noob like me and it did flatten out the heat sink quite a bit. Just google lapping of CPU heatsink and there are tons of links. I just followed one of those. Lapped it to about 1000 grit on a granite countertop with some water...piece of cake.

Good Luck, hope this helped.

Well my Q6600 is B3 and its VID is 1.2875 v. My stock Vcore is also 1.2875 v. I have to bump it up to 1.3125v just to get 3.00 stable.

-do you know if there is anyway i can bring back my q6600 and exchange it for a g0 stepping one? i bought it at newegg. Also i noticed that when i reseated my tuniq i saw some scratches on the bottom of it... they werent there before, how could it get scratched from sitting on the cpu?

Honestly, I don't think your 3.0 Ghz OC is out of the box really at 1.3125v. What are your temps at this OC?

With mine at 3.0 Ghz(9X333) and 1.250v, my temps while stressing it with Prime95 were 50, 60, 50, 60 C (12 hrs stable).

You could try returning the processor, if your in the window for return. Unfortunely you'll lose some more money on the deal for restocking fees or something. I bought mine from ClubIT; promised a GO and recieved it. I'd recommend them at this point. IMO keep the processor unless your OC stress test temps @3.0 are like 65+. If you haven't, I'd clean off the processor and Tuniq and lap the Tuniq; then retry your testing. Also, see if it will get stable at less than 1.3125 (although that's not too bad).

Huh...scratches on bottom of cooler? I'd clean the paste off and lap the bottom of the TUniq Tower for sure. Like I mention...I did it with the sandpaper on a countertop, some folks say to do it on a piece of glass. I just followed one of the many links I googled and it was simple. It took me probably 2 or 3 hours to wear it down smooth and flat from 320 grit, then 600, and finally 1000 grit. I'd never lapped a HS before. Just go slow and remove material from the sandpaper often so your not grinding the particles into the bottom of HS. I used a squirt bottle to wash the particles away every now and then. It made my Tuniq sit nice and flat on the CPU.
Some people even lap their processors (I wasn't that brave). Water and electronics don't seem to go together...It's just not natural IMO.
If you lap the Tuniq, be sure to push it side to side by the bottom of the copper base, not by the top part where the fins are. Don't want to stress the heat pipes and crack a joint or something. I know some posters say to use a circular motion for lapping, but that didn't work too good....definitely go back and forth in one direction.

Hope this helps

Well atm for me and my GO im using just under 1.3v for a 3200GHZ overclock, 8x 400mhz.

I have a bit better cooling then Antec 900 but I only get idle temps of 35degrees idle for the CPU, but the hottest core gets to like 37 or so idle.

Am still in the long process of lowering the vcore lol..
