Right now I have this : http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF06b/12132708-12133156-12133158-12133158-12133158-80230858-80451103.html?dnr=1

Except I upgraded it with a 500 w PSU, a 560ti, and 4 GB of ram but the ram are different speeds (fail on my part).

With 300 dollars I could get an i3 2120, a mobo, a rosewell challenger, and 4gb DDR3 ram.

So do you think I should build this pc or would my current pc hold for another few years? So far its 4 years old and I need to make the ram all the same and it needs a new cpu fan

Oh yes sorry, I'm using it for gaming. And I'm a student on a budget so I researched some guides and those are the parts I came across :) So you think I should go with those? Thanks!

If the HP case is standard, you should have no problem swapping out the old components for those new ones. Be sure to measure inside the case to be sure there's no obstructions in the way of the GTX 560ti. Most I've seen are 8.5" long cards. But some might be 10.5" long. Also, does the PSU have 2 6-pin PCIe power cables or just one? The GTX 560ti's take 2 connectors to power it.

As far as your choice for CPU, the i3-2120 is a great processor for gaming. With its H/T, it can out run many quad cores:

I've put together several budget builds with the i3-2100 and i3-2120 processors, along with graphic cards of the class you are using. I'm always amazed at how great they perform. You should have a good 1080p gamer that will allow you to use all/most of the eye candy available in today's games.

Currently everything ive mentioned as far as the 500w psu, the 560ti and the 4gb of ram is already in my HP and is working fine. The only problem is that my ddr2 ram are diff speeds. I dont know how much of a problem that will be.

I'm just a little confused as to what I should do. Keep my current HP with its upgrades, and give it some more minor ugrades such as ram / fan. Or get the new parts for 300.

The Q6600 in the HP will be a good gamer too. But the upgrade to the i3-2100 will be worth it for a boost in gaming capability. Here is how the processors are ranked:

As you can see, the i3-2100 is 3 tiers above the Q6600. Worth the move. If all is working well with the upgraded HP, try some demanding games and see how it performs.

Run CPU-Z and see what it shows under the memory tab. If the faster ram defaulted to the slower ram's speed, and the timing is the same, you should be fine. The timing is the most important.
