Hi,
Well kinda old cpus completely out of date and luck they both aged well.
Therefore im asking if i should replace my q6600 with a q8400 because im getting it for free from my friend.
So should i change it or not because i've heard cpu cache help it ...8vs4mb
or will it boost some fps in games like watch dogs 2 csgo battlefield 1 farcry 5 and some other old games ?
Kindly help me decide which one would be fine.
Thanks! :)
I've a 1050 2gb.
Note:I dont have money for PCs ATM..so please dont tell me to go for something new.

It's a better CPU, more efficient and better clock rate & FSB (unless you did the BCLK mod on the Q6600)

remember it being a boost over the Xeon 3220 (Q6600 equiv)

I have a lot of these older Dells and it really depends on the model number. From what I can tell with some quick searches, this is a Optiplex 755, which had some limitations depending on the form factor with the tower able to take most anything processor-wise that was <95w.

It should support the faster 1333 bus of the q8400 and with the improvement in single thread performance, it should be a slight bit faster and run a hair cooler:

I'm not sure what os you're running, but if it doesn't need all 4 cores, the e8600 is a really fast processor that borders on 1st gen icore series performance. I used it in my older Dells that don't support quad core processors:

Hope this helps and good luck!

The Q8400 runs cooler, uses less power and is slightly faster about 12% overall. Switch would yield some gains but not a lot. Why not , go for it.

That is true for the B3 stepping, which has a 105W TDP while the G0 stepping has a TDP of 95W. The Q6600 is 65nm (older) while the q8400 (45nm) is newer. Some really old LGA775 boards (before 2007/8) have a great chance that it will not be supported. Some manufacturers can hardware "lock" the BIOS to prevent upgrades.
