I know the difference between these, one is the oldest, in 65nm and 2x4MB of cache, while the latter have 45nm architecture and 2x6MB of L2, so they are much stronger...
What I would like to know, and couldn't find some comparison, is Q6600 overclocked at 3.2-3.6 GHz as strong as stock QX9770 at 3.2 or the slower QX9650?
I know they can easily go to 4GHz and it's hell of a speed, but I want to know, can this 250EUR processor be as fast as these 1100 EUR cousins of it, and does it mean that if I buy Q6600 and overclock it, that I get the 1000 EUR performance for 250?

EDIT: Sorry for the title, I knew they had some large numbers, but they obviously didn't get this high, so it is 9650 and 9770 I was thinking of.

If you overclock the Q6600 to 400Mhz more than a 9xxx series chip, it will be faster in most applications. Do not forget though, that the 9x series comes with new SSE instructions that will improve speed in certain applications (mostly video rendering and playback).

I have the QX9650, and used to have the Q6600. There is absolutely no comparison at all. 45nm means more efficient, better overclocking. Extreme means open multiplier so you don't have to go as crazy on the FSB for an optimum overclock.

The Q6600 is a great budget option, but it simply doesn't hold a candle to the QX9650, not even remotely, and I know this from experience as I have owned both for an extended period of time.

I would like two QX9770's in a Skulltrail, but I will have to fast if I want to get Q6600... ;)
I know it is slow but I was interested in how much potential does it have, is it better overclocked than stock QX...
Thanks for the link, reading it now
Well, it seems that it really is faster than stock QX, which is very good, the only question is, how fast can it go with the stock cooling? and this q9300 doesn't seem bad at all... Man, it is hard to decide what to buy these days... But the budget determines everything, so I hope I'll get some more money soon, or I may even go for E8200...
