So I decided to do something I never do, I bought a used CPU off ebay
I thought: I have never had a CPU die on me why not save a little money and buy used? I guess I never really abuse my CPUs . The seller seems to be pretty honest about his CPU sales, at least the feedback isn't to bad.
I received the Core 2 Quad Q8200 a couple of days ago. Popped it into my PC and boom no post. Not a system beep or anything. The fans and systems lights come on, and remain on, but that's it.
I am upgrading from a P4 530, so it's quite a large upgrade. I popped the P4 back in and upgraded the bios of the Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 to the latest revision. I removed everything except the keyboard, GPU(ATI Radeon 7500 PCI card, old school ), 1 stick of 512MB Corsair RAM, the PSU, and left it mounted in the nMedia case. So after none of the above worked, I broke-down another system(Mobo: MSI P6N-SLI-FI, CPU: Q6600, RAM: 6GB Corsair, GPU: 9800GTX) and dropped the Q8200 in. And what do you know, no system beep, but power to everything just like the Gigabyte system. I also popped the Q6600 from that PC into the Gigabyte system and it posted and booted into Windows fine.
So now I am stuck wondering if the CPU is dead or does it not work with my computers for some unknown reason. Seems like the CPU is DOA to me.
So my question to all the wonderful members of Tom's Hardware: what do I do now? Complain and ask for a refund? even though he says no refunds. That's about all I can come up with. Or do you think that my systems just don't work with a Q8200? even though the Q6600 works great in both.
Thanks for your input!
