Hey guyz, yesterday I overclocked my Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200, it was my first Overclock though, and it was stable.
Bus Speed: 333 -> 400 MHz
Multiplier: 7
Core Clock: 2.33 GHz -> 2.8 GHz
FSB: 1333 -> 1600
Voltage: 1.3v
Cooler: CoolerMaster TX2
Temperature at stock speed and 100% Load: 49
Temperature after overclock and 100% Load: 51
Motherboard: ASUS P5B - P965 Chipset
I want to overclock it more and more, but the problem is, I have DDR2 motherboard, and one guy told me that this motherboard won't be stable after 1600 FSB, and there's a big chance to burn it off, is he saying the truth? Because with this cooler, I believe I can achieve more... Like: 3.4 GHz? or 3.3?
Max temperature on this processor (stock), with stock cooler is 74, which means I have 20c to play with?
What do you recommend me guyz? Am I really going to burn the motherboard if I go further?

It's not that it will explode, but it will be harder to clock it higher. 965 is more or less the same as the P35, so it should be good to around 500 or so. But the ram at 800 will hold you back. Assuming you are using 1:1 for your FSB:RAM ratio, 400MHz is already the limit of what your ram is rated for. Depending on your ram and timings you should be able get up to 533. But its not a given.

I would be surprised if you can get more than 450 FSB on that q8200, I have tested that setup on a p5q p45 chipset, those quad chips are sensitive at high fsb, more so than the c2d chips.

Just set your memory at the lowest it will go, then try upping 5 mhz FSB each attempt.

Give your CPU its max Volts, (Intel Recommends 1.365v I think as max, beyond that its out of warranty, but I gave it 1.4v and still have a C2D 7200 @ 4.0 GHZ 1.4v that has been running like that for 3 years)

Put your memory on 1.65v as well, what memory are you using, i know its DDR2 800Mhz, what timings and brand.

Set the timings loose for extra wiggle room when going for the OC.

Overall, without changing a thing, I think you may hit 3.0Ghz!

remember to test each OC, Prime 95 as well as try a few benchmarks.

What voltage are you giving the NB, and what is the NB Temp? look online for q8200 overclocking threads, you wil see they are hard chips to OC, as they have low Multipliers hence requiring high FSB, and they hit the FSB limit pretty quickly!

Your 2.8Ghz is already a Win, be happy with it!

Good Luck

most likely you can go over 3ghz, just adjust your ram divider.
keep the cpu/ram voltages as low as possible for 100% stability with the least amount of heat.
