my current processor is an intel core 2 quad q8400 @ 2.66 ghz

i know its a little bit old

so i'm planning to upgrade my processor

i'm not willing to change my motherboard, so i will only go for lga 775 processors

so i found out this one: Intel 3.2 GHz LGA 775 Dual Core E5800 Processor

which one is better?: my present Q8400 or the E5800?

agree'd going to a pentoum dual core is not a good upgrade, more of a downgrade, for lga 775 would go pentium, core 2 duo, core 2 quad, and core 2 extreme, Slower clock speeds does not always mean its worse. the q8400 has double the cores and would most likely beat out a 3.2ghz core 2 duo. If u can overclock it to get longer use or upgrade to newer components, but its still a good cpu.

The core 2 quads and the phenom X4s were the first quad core cpus for a good cost and reasoning for their lower clock speeds, compared to their higher clock dual core cpus. Some core 2 quads hit the 3ghz range but most were around that ghz range
