Q8400 vs Q9400 in 3d graphics

which one is more efficient for 3d graphics?
for q9400 it says embedded is it a good thing or not?

i know these differences..

q8400 4m cache 2009 q2
q9400 6m cache 2008 q3 + embedded

The Q9400 is slightly faster because it has an extra 2 MB of l2 cache.

my current processor is pentium d dual core 3.00ghz and its enough for me in most ways but render times are so long with my current processor. my friend bought an amd dual core 2.8 and his system renders the same scene 2.3 times faster than my system .. so i decided my 4 or 5 years old system needs some upgrade.

launch date for q8400 is second quarter of 2009 and i saw the difference between 5 years old 3.0 dual and 5 months old 2.8 dual.. that makes me think that q8400 can be bettter.. am i right?

Yes but are you sure it will work on your motherboard please list your motherboards model number. Alot of those older boards running Pentium Ds wont run a 45nm quad.

now i have a biostar with 4 ram slot(1gb each) but i think i'll buy this one with the processor

If buying new you really should stay away from the socket 775 it is way overpriced and you can find an AMD that will be faster and cost less. If you your board you have now can support a Q9400 it would be a good choice but if you have to change motherboard ditch the 775.

I recommend going with an AMD Phenom II 955 and a good AM3 motherboard with DDR2 ram this will actually perform better and be cheaper then a Q9400. If you have a flexible budget then a I5 750 rebuild would be more suitable with some new DDR3 RAM.

you have altered all my thoughts.. giving up intel and start using amd is something i've never thought about..
i dont think buying ddr3 because i have already have 1x4 ddr2 and it seems enough but i'm not sure what i should do..
amd seems logical i'll think about it.

if my motherboard is suitable for quad i'll only buy a processor.
but as i said i have 4 gb ram and i says 3.25gb i'm using windows7 x64.
is it because of my motherboard?
my mainboard is biostar 945p a7a i i'm not wrong

3.25gb is because you are running 32bit windows it can only use a total amount of 4 gigs and that includes the memory on your video card.

So you want to use your DDR2 ram which is not a problem so in that case go AMD will be a better system and cheaper and also you will still be open to upgrade paths in the future with AMD as for 775 Intel is dead socket.

This setup will allow you to reuse your DDR2 ram and leave money to spare which I suggest getting a really good video card An HD 5770 would be a great choice of video cards but thats another thread.

i'm a 3d max user and according to that bench q9400 is better in some ways but over all phenom beats by looking only the results of 3d
in every other test phenom is beating..

i'm in turkey and i cant find asrock in here.. i found only 1 amd ddr2 motherboard and its price is equal to my total budget.. it seems i should buy ddr3 too =/

If that is cheaper yes the problem is DDR2 is done its old tech so its real expensive. And that one bench that says the Q9400 is better is most likely a bad test because in reality the Phenom II blows it out of the water.

i found someone will buy my old system.. i feel lucky today =) it seems i'll buy phenom II and ddr3..

when my new budget is clear i'll share my decision with you.
