Q9400 vs q9400s

Hi all,

really simple question, but I can't seem to figure it out- what is the difference between a Core 2 Quad Q9400 and a Q9400S? I've heard that the 9400s has double l2 cache, but I can't find any proof of that on the internet.

The Q9400S is 65W TDP and the Q9400 is 95W TDP. That appears to be the only difference.

auntarie, they both have the same 6 MB cache. The "S" model is a somewhat lower powered (65 w TDP instead of 95 watt TDP) version.

Otherwise, there is no significant difference between the two.

I see. So will it be a worthwhile upgrade over my Q9300? A friend is upgrading his PC and he'll give it to me for maybe $30 or less.

No, not really. It's only 166Mhz faster, which you would never notice. Although for $30 or less, it's completely up to you.

Thanks. I won't bother. I was thinking it had 12 megs of cache and that's really the only reason I considered it.

The 9400S is just a more power efficient version of the 9400. It is not faster at stock, although it should be better at overclocking.
