Hello
i have Q9550 cpu with P5Q-Deluxe Mb and 4GB 1066mhz Dominator ram...
i wanna ask ... how long time will my cpu live if i OC it to 3.5gz or 4ghz ?
my work mate told me it will not hold more than a year if i oc to 4ghz ?
is that right ? and how about 3.5GHZ ?
im a little confused ..
Thanks

Lifetime is more determined by temperature and voltage than speed. If you keep it under about 1.36 volts and 72C (full load temp), it should be good for a long time (almost definitely over 5 years, even if it is on 24/7)

Cheers m8 .. perfect answer ;)
but 1 more thing .. is it possible to keep the Temp around 72C with Thermaltake ‏TMG iA1 fan ? cuz the water cooling is expensive and im not planning to buy it ..
thanks

There's too many other variables to make an answer on that cooler. Different chips run hotter or cooler, your type of case, ambient temp, thermal paste, etc all make a difference on the temp of your cpu.

Watch your temperatures and voltage limits. Use those to determine how far to OC your chip and, short of a "sh!t happens" catastrophic failure, your PC will be obsolete before the CPU dies.

Case in point: About 10 years ago, I built a computer with a P233MMX chip. After about 6 months, I jumpered the motherboard for 266 MHz. After about a year, I jumpered the motherboard for 300 MHz. After a couple more years, I experimented and found undocumented jumper settings for 333 MHz and installed an S370 cooler.

Last summer, I threw the thing out because it was badly obsolete.
