So here is my dilemma and wanted to get some opinions on upgrading my system. I'm seeing some really great deals on the i5 2500K and mobos. I was initially shopping for 8GB of matched DDR2 RAM by Gskill which runs about $150 (upgrading from 4gb)...I'm just thinking it may be worth upgrading to new system so I can buy the DDR3 RAM; its super cheap, and not waste that $150 on the ddr2.

............Here is my current system.........
Intel Q9550 (OC 3.4ghz)
EVGA 750i FTW mobo
4 GB Corsair DDR2 800 (4-4-4-12)
Nvidia GTX 470
Raptor 150gb 10,000rpm HD

.............System I'd be upgrading to.......
Intel i5 2500K
Asus P8Z68-V 1155 ATX mobo
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1600 (8-8-8-24)
Nvidia GTX 470
Raptor 150gb 10,000rpm HD

Will I see a significant performance increase in the new i5 system? Or should I just upgrade to 8GB RAM in my current system and wait a year for the new processors/mobos? I primarily play MMO's and games on the system.

I just feel I am bottlenecked somewhere on my current system....doesn't seem to run to its potential. It's gotta be the RAM, I personally thought it was a pretty good build. (though never again would I buy an nvidia mobo)

Thanks in advance for your input.

Is the GTX 470 still a good card or being blown away by the newer Geforce cards? Unfortunately it was the best option for me at the time for perfomance/cost when my 8800GTS stopped working.

Your CPU is quite powerful, but you are definitely being held back by your RAM. Can't see it being worth it to upgrade your RAM (to another DDR2 kit), as you would still be bottlenecked. Isn't that mobo SLI? You could grab another 470 and then wait for another wave of CPU releases. You'd be hardcore CPU/RAM bottlenecked in some games, but it's a no-waste upgrade path.

i honestly wouldnt bother, not enough of an upgrade to see much of a difference. I would wait for next gen intel cpu's. If anything upgrade the gpu, even then, a 470 should still play anything you can throw at it. $150 for ddr2 is expensive, just put another 4gb matched pair with the ones you currently have, make sure its the same speed and timings though, or you will manually have to set timings to the lowest pair to get it to work properly, just had this issue with my PC and 2 slighlty different sets of gskill ram. What is it that your having problems with? a particular game? let us know what the exact issue is and what screen res you are running and we can help you.
