I just spent $2300 on my new Core i7 build

Core i7 920 2.66 GHz (OC to 3.8GHz)
Radeon HD 4870 X2
Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME Mobo
6GB of DDR3 in Triple Channel at 1600 MHZ
3x Seagate 7200.12 500G drives in raid 5

Only game that makes me turn the details down a bit is Crysis. Runs smooth as babys bottom.

Somewhere around 1200, when i first built the computer, it cost 650 but I have upgraded it to the point where the only origional parts are the DVD drive, and case.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ Black Edition @ OC'ed 3.0GHz
Scythe Katana II
Foxconn A7DA-S
Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 (2x1GB) 2GB Kit
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB SATA
ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics (Saving money)
IBM C92 CRT 19" Max Res: 1600 x 1200
Realtek HD Audio
Sony SRS-A37 Speakers
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 32-Bit
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit
Xion II Case
Xion 450 Watt ATX Power Supply
Trendnet Wireless N PCI Adapter

For around $600 bucks, tax is insane in Canada not to mention shipping too.

Over $900 --> $829.98 for HP Pavilion a6712f-b with 22'' monitor
$40 for wireless keyboard + mouth + speakers
$30 for headphones
$30 for webcam
The desktop is worth every penny, that's for sure: 500 GB SATA HDD, 6 GB RAM, Pentium Dual-Core, plus the monitor. These are the most important features for me.

Originally around $850 including monitor.. then I got a sound card, added more memory, another hard drive, firewire card.. etc. I'd say around $1000 in the end, maybe a little more.

I like to say under $1000. I just do a series of upgrades to keep the computer current. just added a 9800GTX and a Q6600 (It was a budget upgrade and I got the Q6600 for free). I have a 600 GB hard disk in the mail. I filled up my 320GB and my 250GB drives. I have a feeling that I will have to replace the PSU some time soon (I got a 520 Enermax PSU 4 years ago and its still working) My friend measure the power waves off the psu and said that it was shit but I take hart in knowing that my PSU has out lived 3 of his and is still working.

My first ... APPLE-2+ cost $3500 with printer and monitor. HD? What's that ?? I did have two 5.25" floppies.
My latest AMD5400 build cost about $800, but the 19" LCD monitor is 2001 legacy and cost one-BILL.

I had my first one in 1998, a pentium 2 400mhz, ali chipset pc chips mobo (it sucked so bad!) 64mb ram (pc100), 6,4GB hard drive, 36x cd-rom, 15" crt monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers.
By then it costed $2.000!
Then in 2001 bought some upgrades (athlon xp 1600+, epox w/via kt266a mobo, 256 ddr266, 30GB Hd, cd burner, geforce 5200) and used the same case and peripherals (included the poor 230W PSU). All that costed me about $700. Later upgraded the monitor with a 17" philips crt and geforce 6600gt. ($450 more)
Next step was in 2005, when I bought an used 21" Viewsonic crt monitor, an athlon64 3000+ (socket 939), nvidia chipset asus mobo, 2x512MB ddr400 ram, 250Gb WD HD, DVD burner, 450W PSU, Asus case, and a geforce 7900gt. About $900 this time. From here on, using my Philips music combo that has usb streaming, so great sound with no souncard needed!
My latest rig (2007) is an Athlon x2 6400+, 6 gig ram ddr2 800, asus mobo w/ amd770/sb600 chipset, 500GB WD HD, Geforce 8800gt, Lg DVD-ram, Antec 550W PSU. (All for $1.000)
In november 2008 got my lovely 27" LCD Dell 2009W ($1.000), wich I enjoy very much using (gaming, movies, web surfing, everything!). And that's the most costly single piece of hardware I've ever own... So far. I wouldn't bet on it being the last one, for instance, I'm looking forward to buy a 13" aluminum Apple Macbook that'll set me back some $1.300 or more... Crazy race, ain't it? Sometimes I wonder what will be available in 10 years or so... Can U imagine that?

I spent $570 on the tower, $900 on the screens, $350 on the sound plus then you have all the extra stuff like mouse, webcam etc. Totals $1820 US Dollars oh and also add the $140 hdmi Cable *sigh*

i7 920 (oc to 2.7), corsair XMS3 12gb 1600 ddr3, noctua cooler, asus p6t deluxe, BFG 280gtx oc,1tb samsung hd, 750 pcpower silencer power supply, Antec 1200 case: self-built $1500.

Also installed my e-mu 1820 and a second older (but fast) 250gb hd.

OMG :) I build my own so buy and opgrade as pleased, so had no idea what price before I just took my time and tryed add it all together as it is now though its atleast 6 mdr old now, and all in all about 5300$ main pc and about 2500$ for the other pc.
I need to go out more :)

I spent about $600 for my first custom computer build. ECS P45 Mobo, Q9300, 8GB OCZ DDR2 Ram, PNY Geforce 9800GT, 1.5TB Hard drive, CD/DVD Burner Combo, 680W Power Supply, and Antec 300 case.

Fast Computer for a great price. Will be building an i7 rig soon.

Processor i7 920 245.51
Mobo BIOSTAR TpowerX58 LGA 1366 169.99
Case p182 (friend is giving it to me - just shipping) 25
PSU CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W 69.24
RAM OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 6GB Plat 7-7-7-24 69.99
Gfx + HDD XFX Geforce 260 core 216 + Seagate 640GB 32MB cache 199.98
Display ASUS MK241H 259.99
Optical Samsung 22x SATA Lightscribe 21.99

Total 1061.69

And Amazon just jacked me $13 by lowering the price of the ram within 8 days and refusing to adjust my price!

my newest system was $700 after my rebates, which all came in -- this was a year and a half ago. new parts included a 19" monitor, amd x2 6400 BE, basic gigabyte board, radeon 3850, 2gb 800mhz DDR2 corsair xms ram, 250GB sata2 hd, DL DVD RW, antec sonata (?) case and earthwatts psu.

grandfathered from the machine it replaced were an 80 GB EIDI HD and older tv tuner + some Kilpsch 2.1 Pro Media speakers (LOVE THEM).

total price $800 w/ the $100 speakers.

First system build: P4 2.8 478pin, Intel D865perl mbd, 120g WD Sata hdd, evga 5700LE 256mb, ASUS cdrw, Viewsonic 19 CRT, Soundblaster PCI 512, 1gig of ram, Aspire dreamer 2 case w/ 350w PSU... Just under a grand.

Current system:
PII X4 940, Asus M4A78 Pro, WD 120 & 200 gig drives, Audigy 2ZS, Radeon HD 4650, 4gigs of GSkill dual channel kit, Tt Silent Purepower 480WPSU, Tt Big Typhoon, AS5, SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner, ASUS 21.5" LCD.

I have 1300 in my current computer for the box main monitor speakers input and os. I have another external backup hard drive and 2 printers that I paid another 300 for altogether and I have a side monitor I paid 250 for that is sometimes hooked up but isn't at the moment. Also I buy componets based on need and value and my current computer was upgraded overtime over the past 1.5 years.

Let's see uh I bought barebones before that was as complete a system I ever bought last decade; otherwise I assemble my own, in Canadian dollar amount:

- A defective but working LCD: $11 on eBay
- A 400 watt PSU, paid by my friend as part of borrow the P2 for play tweaking: $20
- A replacement AM2+ board/CPU combo: $120
- DDR2, 1 stick of 2 GB, Futureshop.ca, $25
- GeForce 9800 GT, from NCIX.ca, $150
- A full bay server tower from a decade ago, $80 if I remember right
- Salvaged 2.5-inch SATA 120 GB (YES goes into desktop), less than $30 on eBay along with some other salvage.
- Salvaged CD/DVD writer(s), one int/one ext, less than $30
- Salvaged wireless keyboard/mice/USB Wi-Fi.
- Logitech Joystick $15 eBay
- External 320 GB drive, $80 eBay

I do remember Sound Blaster AWE 32, I had and sold it, no longer compatible (ISA!).

Oh that AM2+ combo meal was X2 3800+ on M2N SE; about 2/3 year ago. I had mishap on X2 3800+ Socket 939 back then it gave me a life of half year before that untimely death; set me $100 approximately, all on eBay.
