No, when they said a year what they meant was that anyone who has Windows 7/8 will have a year from release to upgrade for free. Once they upgrade, they will have the OS forever, and I believe you will get a key that will allow you to do a fresh install of Windows 10 without needing to first install Windows 7, even past the 1 year date.

Oh wow, that would be awesome! I assumed that it was just a free upgrade edition but each time you wanted to re-install, you would first have to install Windows 7/8/8.1 and then upgrade.
 


No. For a reinstall, you will be able to do a clean install of just 10, without having to do 7 first, and an subsequent upgrade to 10 again
(according to current info from MS).
