Every creature has a chance each turn to see you, depending on your stealth
stat and monster awareness, so you need a lot of stealth, light armour,
plus usual technique of minimalizing the amount of turns sleeping creatures
could see you (hiding behind corners, searching for the best side to
approach). Preferably invisibility and haste in important causes. You can
also use "Projected Noise" spell that distract monsters into running in
some direction (I don't know well this technique, but I've read it works).
Anyway at later stage of game stealthy approach is becoming more and more
difficult especially if you don't have some stealthy artifacts (I once wore
three of them, AFAIR this character is still alive, but long forgotten).
