If I were to get a set of four dimms, for example 4 x 4 gb kit, will it automagically run as quad channel or can I use them as two seperate dual channel kits? I'm looking to get a ryzen 5 1600x which, I believe, only supports dual-channel.

note: I will be using ddr4 ram @ 2400mhz. (Which seems logical, since ryzen uses ddr4, but that aside)

Will all the RAM be used though? (with that I mean will it use 16gb or not?)

I understand why you suggest getting 2x8, but the problem is, I have been sparing money for a good 2 years and have been shaving things off until I had the perfect price to buy the pc. Then I realized that however 8gb is good for now, it isn't going to last me forever, and if I now get a 2x4 and later in the year get another 2x4, I will have 16gb nonetheless.

PS: I respect your opinion and in no way am trying to insult you, I just wanted to make clear why I asked the question.

I will be using two identical sets of Corsair Vengeance LPX, so that shouldn't be a problem.

PS: Thanks for helping me so quickly and effectively everyone!

I don't recommend 16 GB of ram. It is not like you will ever be useing so much, unless you do hardcore gaming 3 schreen monitor playing 3 games art the same time while rendering on Adoby After Effects.
Sooo yeaa, its a waste of money
for normal computer users i reccomended atleast 4 GB of ram
for gamers i reccomend 8 GB of ram and 10 GB of ram at most.
the extra 6 will never be used its just a waste of money also for best performence i reccomend filling all ur ram slots like if you have 2 ram sllots get a 4x4 ram or if you got a quad u can do 2x2x2x2
and so on...

It's true, for now 8gb of ram is plenty, but i'm going to need 16gb in for example 2 years. I'm in it for the long run, but for now I will use 8gb of RAM.
