I have I Violet6 motherboard.
My specs on RAM upgrade is as follows:
Dual channel memory architecture
Four DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
Supported DIMM types:
PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)

However, all the stuff i am finding is listed as quad channel.
I checked some of the other threads, but wondering if the following RAM is compatible:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231312

or if there is a cheaper set of sticks.
looking to max out my MB

Even though your motherboard has 4 ram slots, it can only run dual channel mode.
A 4 stick kit is not 4 channel, but dual channel.

I would imagine that the kit you listed would be compatible.
But to be certain, go to the g.skil web site and access their compatibility app. YThe ram should show up for your motherboard.

Yes the DRAM set of Ripjaws will be fine - there is no true dual, tri or Quad channel DRAM - every single stick of DDR3 is simply a single 64bit device, when operating in dual channel mode either 2 sticks or 4 sticks the MC (memory controller) sees all the sticks as a single 128bit device (hence dual channel), in the 1366 mobos three or 6 sticks are seen as a single 192 bit device and on 2011 mobos 4 or 8 sticks are seen as a 256bit device.

So this is the first mod to my hardware I am doing myself. I just dont want to spend 200$ on ram to have it under preform because of some slightly different aspect to its design.

when you say,

does that mean i should stop at 2, or get no less than 3?

so am i understanding the first chart, that if i run 4 sticks of dual channel RAM, my Antholon 2 CPU will throttle it to 800mhz instead of the factory designed 1333?

and where do i find the QVL list, do i got to RAM manufacturer, the mobo manufacturer, or the CPU manufacturer?

So i bought that Gskills RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231309
per compatibility....but my puter is running slower than before...
so checked the speed:

Memory Type DDR3
Memory Size 16 GBytes
Channels Dual, (Unganged)
Memory Frequency 533.3 MHz (3:8)
CAS# latency (CL) 7.0
RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) 7
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 7
Cycle Time (tRAS) 20
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 27
Command Rate (CR) 1T
Uncore Frequency 1999.9 MHz

First off, i have little knowledge of modding computers, but it seems off.
the 533mhz should be 1066...is that part of AMD limitations?

got the info on memory performance from CPU-Z program
