Hello everyone !
I am thinking of changing my processor from DUO CORE(E2180)@2GHZ to QUAD CORE(Q9550)@ 2.8 GHZ.
I will be overclocking it if my motherboard allows it.
My current pc specs are:
intel duo core(e2180)@2.0 ghz
ram : 2gb (soon going to be 4 gb)
psu : zebronics 450W
GPU : 9500GT (1gb)
I only play 1.6(lol in local tourneys :p) nd cs go.

FOR CS GO:
My current pc is giving me around 40-110 fps (avg 50s)- DM
and ~60+ in 5vs5 ....everything on low and 800x600 res.

So my question is:
Will chaning my processor increase any fps?
I have read in several post ppl who are using this processor(quad core q9550) combined wid a 9500gt.... are getting ~90 fps in dm
and
~180 fps 5vs5 (EVERYTHING ON LOW and res. 800x600)
If its true then i could easily change it.

P.S. i am getting this quad core for a really cheap price.

Please dont recommend me to buy a new PC.. coz i already have one :D...but i will be ocaasionally using this to play on lan with my brother.
Also i dont want to stress my laptop for gaming.

Anyone who has prior experience with this processor ? :D

Thanku in advance guys :).

CS: GO does not requires a quad core cpu. Its minimum cpu requirement is E6600 which is quite similar to your E2180. But if you are getting a Q9550 at very cheap price then go for it. And yes you will get better fps even on 720p but your PSU build quality not looks good.

Change it, if for nothing else then for the fact that it is dirt cheap (I used to own that very same CPU) and will allow you to play all games, since dual cores are out of the picture now.

Besides, it does have better per-core performance (and more cache) than E2180, and it can also be overclocked to 3.4GHz quite easily. So it will provide FPS boost for sure, especially when overclocked.

Definitely upgrade RAM, and this PSU is... how to put it... crappy ;) Consider getting a better one, especially for overclocking. You will also need a proper CPU cooler for any overclocking you intend to do (do not use your current cooler with a new CPU).

Here are some benchmarks:

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-E2180-vs-Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9550

SO, yes, in general this CPU has 60% more performance per thread, mostly due to higher clock speed. And this is BEFORE overclocking.

As pointed out, you're getting a significant increase in per-core speed. So even though CS:GO might not appreciate the extra 2 cores you'll be gaining, it'll probably like the extra speed. And if you can pick it up for a cheap price, that's also well & good.

That being said, I would also really consider a GPU upgrade as well, if for no other reason than to allow you to increase the image quality while also smoothing out the performance. As the others mentioned, your PSU is less than stellar...but even a craptacular 450W PSU has more than enough to handle something like a GTX 750Ti or GTX 1050, in particular one of the models that doesn't require separate PCIe power connectors. Those GPUs just draw straight from the PCIe slot on the motherboard (topping out at 75W, not much more than the 50W your 9500 GT pulls), & would give you a really big graphics boost to boot. They'll only run you ~$100-120 USD, so it wouldn't be a bad investment, especially for a secondary gaming PC.

thanx for ur feedback
but any idea how much fps gain i will get?
Also i have seen cs go makes full use of 4 cores ...so how much fps i will be squeezing out on 720p?

Well..maybe the game u tried was not that much optimised.
I have seen games using full use of a quad core.
Also cs go utilises all 4 core. U can look for cpu usage on youtube videos about cs go

Well i totally agree with u but as mentioned earlier ... i once saw a video on youtube ( an old quadcore..dont remember the model properly).....there in his cpu usage section...CS GO was utilising all 4 cores to nearly about 50%.
Also any idea how much fps i will be grtting?

i searched but did not found a match :(
Also the game is now much optimised as compared to earlier updates...

Look CS: GO is not a CPU or GPU intensive games. Only it requires a Core 2 duo E6600 and 256 MB of video memory. You will be able to play it without lag at 720p. Even I personally played on dual core pentium G2030 with only intel HD graphics on low settings. I was getting nearly around 40 to 55 fps.
