Quad Head (4 Monitors) with Nvidia

I am going to build a core i7 desktop. I currently have 2 old dell 20 lcds and will upgrade to at least 2 Samsung 2343BWX 23" LCD (2048x1152).

I would like to run 3 or 4 of them and need to find the right video card. I am willing to spend up to $550 and am not a fan of ATI. But if it makes the most sense will go with it (ie 4850 x2). I used to be a big time gamer. Now I just pretend to be (too busy working), but want a card that can still kick some ass for when I get the time.

Any reccomndations? Is there a Nvidia solution that makes sense. If I run in SLI can I do 3-4 monitors on nvidia or will I still be limited to 2.

You can try this (unofficial). Officially SLI supports one monitor.

For four monitors, you can use two video cards not in SLI.
Each video card should have 2 ports.

You can do SLI with two video cards and get a third for dual display also.
SLI makes sense only if you are a gamer.
With two/three video cards you are going to need a hefty power supply so check here:

Thank you, This makes sense. Can you enable/disable Nvidia SLI from windows (or do you have to physically remove the SLI connector).

If I can do it in software, this would seem like the way to go. I could have SLI performance on 1 monitor and then disable SLI in software to get 3-4 monitor support.
