As you know, Upcoming games will be utilizing 4 cores up to 8 cores.
Games like Far Cry 4 even has quad core as minimum requirement, it won't even start on dual cores.

So if i where to play next gen games, with steam, skype, teamspeak, origin, music, downloading and whatever else i have running on the background.
Would that mean having more then 4 cores would be much better then having only 4?
Pure performance speaking, which would be better?

Stuck between these 2 CPU's
- i5-4460
- FX-8320

Solution

Actually, Far Cry 4 can run on a dual core CPU as long as it has Hyper Threading like the Core i3. Between the two CPUs, I would choose the i5-4460.

Well its not all about the cores, the architechture is better on Intel cpus, but I can say confidently the fx 8320 is awesome and so easily overclockable on a good air cooler, since I own one right now! :)

Hello

Are you going to build a rig ?
If yes :

- The i5 would be the best solution
- If the FX allows you to get a stronger GPU, get the FX, it still a good CPU, unless that i5 is better

The i5 will win because they have stronger single cores and better chip architecture than the 8320, AMD make cheap equipment and it shows in most cases against Intel

Also the i5 doesn't use hyper threading, it will be running off of it's 4 solid cores, but most games only use 4, since you are gaming I'd say go with the i5 which will leave you with a better upgrade path

Depends on whether you truly want a gaming system or a better CPU, the FX will allow you to overclock and be able to get a better GPU since you spend less. If you REALLY want Intel just to have Intel, do it but remember a better GPU will make a better performance difference then a better CPU.

but remember one inportant thing if you say save money on your cpu and get a better gpu well (your gpu which is better isnt going to be powerful enough either now or 1-2 years down the road) , so i suggest using intel i5's since they are perfect they are advanced so you wont need another cpu one two years later. whatever gpu you pick however strong it may be the i5 cpu will not bottleneck , whereas i have heard peope with like fx6350 cpus (6 cores ) and they get into bottleneck and upgrade but think about it that cpu is not terriblely old and its not a thing where it doesnt have enough core or doesnt oc enough (it does both great) but the performance per core matters more (e.g. quality over quantity) .
