Quad Q9550 Safe overclock

I have recently bought a new computer from good old newegg.

OCZ 700 watt psu

4870 ATI 1 gb

CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield @ 2.83 stock

Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45

Memory G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000

The HSF i use is XIGMATEK HDT-S1283


I want to safely overclock this past 3ghz without playing with the voltages too much. It would be nice for help im new at this and i don't want to fry my new computer do to my lack of experience and knowledge.

Read the OC sticky, and understand it (may take you a couple days if you don't know much about OCing).

And don't exceed recomended temps and voltages.

Keep in mind that voltage plays a major part in your components life span, and than heat (but not so much as the previous). Try to keep them both under control, and remember that the more voltage you put into it the more heat it will generate.

I'm running revision a Q9550 C1 at 3.4GHz. The bus speed is 400MHZ, FSB 1600, and core voltage 1.272. Real Temp reflects under load around 65C and a max of 67C. If fluctuates between 60C and 67C. I do have a large Thermal Take fan in place of the manufacturer fan, though. My system is an AsusTEK P5Q Deluxe P45 chipset with 8GB of GSkill (F28500-CL5) DDR2 running overclocked at 533MHZ. The system is stable and with Prime95 with all 4 cores under the Small FFTs Torture test the system will run stable and not lock-up. However all 4 cores running Prime95 under the Torture test produces a core temp on core 0 of 74C which could be dangerous. Day-to-Day operations without running 5 VMs and GNS3 with 4 routers runs at 52C 24X7.
