Yesterday after the launch of the 7900gtx I went into allienware to check if they had them in stock they didn't just just had the in stock but also this

It doesn't look like they are using 7900GTX 512's for the setup. It looks more likely to be a proprietary 7900GT 256 setup. You have the same amount of RAM as in an standard 7900GTX 512 setup, with twice the pixel pipelines and GPU's to provide throughput. The best news about this is that there is a drive that will support Quad SLi with could be used with Asus or Gigabytes Dual GPU cards in an SLi configuration. So you could do it yourself, with a standard SLi Mobo. Albeit with lest Bandwidth than a true Quad SLi Mobo.

P.S. As you can see from my signature, I am running a FX5900 Ultra. I don't even have PCIe, let alone SLi. So I have no vested interest in it, but it makes sense for performance because that is the way that processors are going. i.e. Parallel processing of lower clocked cores.

I think nvidia only started the quad-SLi thing because they want to have dual-core options in the future and the driver setup will already be there. That and to give the manufacturers the option to put two GPUs on the same card like MSI did.

i always thought that you needed 4 PCIe 16X slots in order to get quad SLI with this they only use 2. interesting.

and people could get quad SLI before this. Gigabyte makes a board that has 4 PCIe 16X slots

No you couldnt the board that gigabyte made had 4X16X pci-e but you could only use 2X16X pci-e SLI and another 2X16X pci-e SLI so you only had a double SLI system NOT a Quad SlI system which combines the power of the 4 cards and unleashs it . Understand?

Could you provide a link because all I saw on the sight was "4 nVidia GPU's". No mention of what core they were. I did however see that they do have 4 x 512MB GDDR3 of RAM onboard. So they could very well be 7900GTX 512. But the cooling solutions look more like 7900GT's or even 7600GT's

LOL i wouldn't be surprised if someone got qa Quad SLI system that they would blow every fuse in there house. weel i guess that would be if they are using a power hungry intel CPU with it.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. I wonder if they underclock them so that they don't overheat. I wouldn't think you'd need all four GPU's running at 690MHz or whatever the default core frequencey is. Just a thought.

It's truly pointless. Normal SLI gives like a 20-30% boost over a single card, so it's not worth having quad SLI setup.

Yeah it is but for those rich enough to be able to buy a 30" monitor, this would be the solution for it for it can run ultra high resolution while still achieving great performance.

But the way graphics cards changing every several months this would be outdated by next year so it's practical to just buy one graphics but it would be a lot better though with this quad sli.
