HI there. I am an architect, planning to upgrade my desktop. I got a quadro m4000 and my motherboard is asus z170m-plus . Here is the question, can I add another gpu to work with the quadro and will it really make some benefits?

I mainly use rhino, vray, maya, AI and PS. However as everyone knows, people always want their work done asap, so do I. I am still suffering from the wait time of render, and that is the reason why I want to make some improvements. I have seen people do that but under the situation which the second card does not help when the first one is working, and that is not what I want. DX12 seems to allow two different cards work together, but not sure will this work for me. Also, asus did not get sli certification on this model of mb, so I don't even know can two quadros work together on it. even if that configuration works, how much will it benefit from the extra $ the second card costs?

if it does work, what card do you recommend? my budget is around 1000, which means I can choose from another quadro m4000, titan, 980ti or some amd cards, however if less money can make good result, I will also consider that. In addition, I have also thought of replacing the m4000 with m5000, but that kinda costs me too much.

I ve been doing some research but I am still new to this area, so could someone please help me with this. TX:)

hello Crik927,

I'm no expert, but I thought I'd share what little information I have about your subject. from what I gather, different GPU from Nvidia doesn't work in SLI. However, making them work separately is a pain to just configure drivers for each. I would recommend getting another M4000 since they do work in SLI and it should work smoothly. I checked this https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170M-PLUS/specifications/ it says that it supports AMD crossfire, nothing about Nvidia though. I would contact their support to double check if it works with Nvidia as well. Otherwise, you might look into getting another motherboard instead. I hear LGA 2011 processors are best for rendering given the fact that they have 6 cores and stuff...

I hear LGA 2011 processors are best for rendering given the fact that they have 6 cores and stuff, that could speed up your rendering. Come to think of it, thats not a solution to change the whole machine, but it is a small motherboard to render on(in my openion). maybe keep it as it is and save up for another workstation where you can put your card on it and get an AMD on this one to turn it into a console gaming PC or just for browsing. A friend of mine asked me to build him a PC just for that porpuse, the specs I thought would be best as follows:
Asus rampage v extream LGA 2011-3
intel i7 5820k
PNY Video Graphics Cards VCQM4000-PB
G.SKILL 64GB (4 x 16GB) Ripjaws 2666MHz
650W corsair PSU gold edition.
only one down side to that GPU it doesnt have any display port orther than 1.2 display port.
I would I do have a question however, I just built that PC but it did not give me any display, don't know why yet but maybe because I don't a high resolution screen to support that stuff.

I hope some of the information here was helpful and good luck.

NVIDIA has a list of motherboards that are certified to work with QUADRO SLI. Go to their website and look under PRODUCTS - TECHNOLOGIES - QUADRO SLI. You can also call ASUS tech support. Number is buried but look for Tech Support for COMPONENTS. They are very helpful when telling you what their boards can do (at least I found them so).

I just posted a thread here on how to get 2 M4000's working on the ASUS Z10PE D8 WS motherboard with both 4k and 5k monitors in SLI Mode.

DO NOT CALL NVIDIA Tech Support. They are USELESS and some reps will tell you that Quadro does not supoort SLI. Call PNY if you purchased PNY NVIDIA Graphics cards before you call NVIDIA.

From what I understand, you must use the same graphics cards if you have more than 1. Especially if you are trying to do SLI. I did see videos on You Tube on how to get SLI with different graphics cards but I havent tried that.
