I'd recomend the FirePro because the Quadro has a slower Mhz bus, of only 400mhz compared to I think 500 or 600 on the FirePro.

Nothing on the quadro 600 is 400mhz and besides you can't look just at one aspect and you certaintly can't compare specs of amd vs nvidia. The v4900 is better but you need to see if your renderer and fluid simulation is even gpu accelerated and if it uses cuda, opencl, opengl, etc.

I own the Quadro 600, and im impressed with its rendering speeds and performance in general using Maya and 3dsMax. They have risen in price lately and i do not know how well the firepro is against the 600. Personally i would get the 600, im also selling mine on ebay if your interested pm me.

I used to have a Quadro 600 in my machine, which is a budget workstation card but it did well in some light 3d modelling. As for 3d rendering it all depends on the renderer as k1114 said. If the renderer supports CUDA then the nvidia card could give you an advantage. Do note that the AMD card has GDDR5 which is faster than the GDDR3 on the quadro. What software will you work with?
All I can say is that I had the PNY quadro 600 and it was a almost silent card, it had low temps/power consumption, and did well for my purposes of photo editing, and light 3d modelling.

Hope this helped!

I'll be using it mainly for working with maya and realflow.
