My budget is GBP 350 / $500.

Main use will be PS and AE (CS6). My pc build is likely to be:

i7 4770K or i7 4930K
RAM: 16GB ...is 32GB overkill?
SSD for OS

pls recommend best MBOB too.

GTX is more flexible i.e. multi use, so will i be limited with a Quadro?

Can i get similar performance from both types with the above budget?

Thanks in advance!

I would advise you to go amd in your case. Their opencl that amd cards have will come in handy for after effects. Otherwise, quadro cards are way too expensive (as much $5000 usd) and very little Bang for buck. I would advise you to get r9 290x and that should be enough for all your design needs. As for photoshop, it will be even easier than after effects in gpu so no worries there. I don't know of any particular uses for 32 gb of ram. Motherboard:

definitely Radeon card because of OpenCL acceleration :)
