only the 8612 and 8212 have the quad-core 1.2 GHz CPUs. The other two models, 8612 and 8212, have the slower dual-core 1.2 GHz CPUs. ??????

My thought too. That would not be slower, just less parallel

So, same model numbers, same speeds, and a difference of quad core and dual core. I think there's a typo here.
