Hello Tom's Hardware,
So let me catch you up to speed. A long time ago I made the mistake of buying a prebuilt gaming PC, which in all honesty has been good. I bought a Kinect 2 for Windows for it back when I first got it, and they worked well together. I could use the Kinect as a mocap device and HD webcam. I realized on day that the BIOS on the MoBo was locked down and I couldn't get into the boot menu or settings if I wanted to. I then ordered an RMA, they replaced my whole PC, and I got a new MoBo that works great. The problem is, I didn't know what the Kinect 2 was particular about what chipset the USB 3.0 uses. So needless to say my old (MSI?) MoBo worked great, and my new Gigabyte MoBo does not. After months of research I finally have a PCI-E Usb 3.0 adapter that works. The problem is, my graphics card's cooler is taking up the slot for it. So I am wondering two questions.
One: Should I buy a riser cable for my GPU, or USB Card, or does someone have a better solution?
Two: Does anyone know where I could get a good quality riser cable or adapter that WON'T short my MoBo or anything connected. I have read horror stories on every cable I've seen about poor solder catching the cable on fire, or the whole unit shorting. I also would prefer a cable with Amazon prime shipping.
Surely there is a quality fix to this (common?) problem?
Please help me resolve this after so many months,
-Tom
I don't know my new Mobo model off hand, nor the USB card, but I can always post them if needed. The main thing about Kinect 2 compatibility is that you have an Intel or Renesas chipset.
