Which is the better drive, the newer Quantum ATA100's or the IBM Deskstar 75GXP??? Looking at either the 30 gig or the 45 gig versions of the drives...

Thanks

The Quantums look great, but I personally still prefer the IBMs.

You shouldn´t even ask!
The IBM Deskstar 75GXP is way better!
Even Tom say its "The King of IDE" (Look in latest matchup:
SCSI vs IDE).

Go for the 45 Gb!

i have been wondering about it for a long time.

i heard there r many problems on 75gxp.

but i believe 60gxp is better than quantum, but it doesn't appear on the market

for now, i decide to buy a quantum. they r cheaper, thus more worth to buy

coz i use to have a quantum made in japan, after decades it is still stable like a rock

so i love this name

I'd go for the IBM. I had a 30 gig 75GXP for a while, but my computer got stolen around Christmas. When I bought my replacement with the insurance money, there were no IBM drives available, so I went with a 30 gig Quantum. It's a good drive, but not as fast as my old IBM. Sandra benchmarks still show my old IBM beating this one. In my opinion, if you have the opportunity to get an IBM, do it; you won't be disappointed, but if you did get the Quantum, I'm sure you'll be happy too.
