Query about case cooling

Hey all,

I have been doing research recently as to what the best cooling solution for me would be. I don't want my system to be too loud however, so it's turning into a bit of a balancing act. Currently, when my CPU and GPU ramp up their fans, my system becomes quite loud so I was wondering if adding another intake fan or two would help my system be cooler under load.

I use a Fractal Define R4 case with the two stock fans set as intake in the front, and my only exhaust being the two stock fans of the H80i out of the back. I currently have all of the moduvents installed (although I'm not entirely sure yet as to what difference these make in terms of sound/lower airflow).

I was wondering if adding another fan in the side/underside of my case would potentially help with cooling as the Fractal stock fans don't really shift that much air compared to a Noctua counterpart (for instance).

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks,

Matt

I don't think you need to add any more fans. There should be enough air flow. But say if you've got 3 x Xfire or something that fills the case then you might need to get a bigger case.
Well from what I understand, the Fractal R4 is rather confined when it comes to getting in air via the front. I would probably add a fan on the side to feed your GPU and general airflow. Perhaps when the GPU is better fed, the rest of the air can help leverage your CPU. As you said yourself, aim for high end fans if you want a silent but effective flow. Noctua is a great brand.
