I bought a new Thermaltake PSU but am finding out that my motherboard has both a 24 pin connector and a 4 pin 12V ATX for the CPU (I'm assuming from searching). The new PSU came only with the 24 pin connector and several 8 and 6 pin connectors for various peripherals. My question is whether or not I will have to send this new power supply back or can I find an adapter that turns an 8 pin into a 4 pin 12V? I am new to this so the simplest answer is always preferred.

By the way I have found a few adapters but I am still wondering if this is advised and if it will cause any unforeseen errors.

Thank you.

They have some kind of a clip that allow you to attach the 2 4-pin connectors to make a 8-pin one. That's why they're called 4+4. I think unsnap is the right word (I'm not a native English speaker).

What exactly do you mean by unclip? Unfortunately I am at work and not near it to be able to inspect more closely. Is it made to come apart?

Thanks alexoiu. Your English is better than most native English speakers. I will check it out when I get home and will select your answer if it works out.

Thank you again.

I have seen it come as an 8-pin with 4-pins that are "break-away" meaning it has a weak plastic connection between 2 4-pins that can be broken to create 2 separate 4-pin plugs. Even if they are separate and you need an 8 pin again they should work together fine if you plug them in individually into the same slot, just make sure the connection is firm.
