question about 775

Solution
There is nothing you can do with that motherboard. It will not accept an Intel Core2Duo processor. It will not accept more than 1GB of RAM.

I can answer this one. The Dimension 2400 is not S775 but S478. Not only that, but it is limited to only 400MHz-FSB S478 processors and only sports a single-channel of DDR1 which is shared with the IGP (and there's no AGP slot).

As there never were any S478 C2D processors, it won't work.

Perhaps you are not understanding that 478 is not the same as 775. While there are adapters that let you run 478 processors on 775:

There are none for the other way, because 775 has many more power and ground pins to run power-hungry Prescott CPUs. And the lowest FSB for desktop Core 2 (including Pentium variants) was 800.

Furthermore, the whole idea of a FSB is the memory controller is on the motherboard, not the CPU. So you can change to whatever CPU you like that fits, but it won't affect memory compatibility one bit.
