Question about adding hard disk

Hi

I am looking at adding an addition hard disk to my PC (at least 2TB).

Seeing as the hardware world appears to move quickly and my PC is a bit long in the tooth now (albeit it serves me well), I was hoping some kind person would take at look and advise what type of hard drive would be compatible with my motherboard and if there's a limit to the size of hard disk I can install in the PC. I am pretty familiar with IDE standards but not so much with SATA (which my PC has).

I only have one SATA cable which is connected to the primary hard disk, so would appreciate advice pointing me in the right direction as to what type to purchase.

Yes it will work. With SATA you have SATA I II and III each one being twice as fast as the other. They are ALL forwards AND backwards compatible. You can put a SATA I on a III and a III on a I Just if the drive can perform faster on lets say SATA III Like a SSD it will be limited to what ever the speed of the SATA you are using. Your PC does say if it is SATA III or not but it is at least SATA II for sure and any Hard Drive can not max out a SATA II connection yet so you are good and it should be able to support a 2TB drive as well.

Are you just adding a drive or moving everything to this new drive?

Thanks for that useful information. I'm looking to add an additional drive for data only and leaving the OS on the current drive I have installed.

Yea just turn off your PC, install the drive, turn it on, Right click on Computer/This PC and go to manager then click on disk management. It will probably ask you to initilize the disk. Do so. You can just use MBR since it isn't over 2.2TB. Then right click on Blank space to the left of the Disk Number and New Partition. if you just want one big drive just next though everything.
