I have a Dell XPS 13 for school and was contemplating getting an eGPU for it. The laptop has two Thunderbolt 3 connectors and has an intel i7-10710u CPU with the intel UHD integrated graphics.

I've seen mixed opinions from people about the value of using an eGPU. It certainly will be pricey, coming in around $500 with even a mediocre video card and a lower end eGPU. Is it even worth it to get the eGPU?

Compared to the integrated graphics even a low end GPU will blow them out of the water in performance.

What I would do is look around for a used eGPU enclosure and a used graphics card. There are plenty of RX580-s, GTX1060s, 1070s and now 1080s and 1080ti. With release of the RTX3000 series cards and there much much lower price scaling it has really pushed down older cards value since you can now get 2080ti performance with the 3070 at 499 USD.

Thanks for the advice! I've just seen so many people having negative opinions about having the eGPU and I was curious as to whether they were actually useful.
