Question about Audio Controller

Greetings,

This is more a question about the motherboard audio codec than anything else, so I'm putting it here.

I'm using a Logitech S-220 speaker set (3.5mm) which is plugged in the motherboard I/O and a MXL Studio 1 Microphone (USB) which is plugged into the front panel I/O. I'm also using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam with microphone which could potentially be part of the issue as well. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H which has a Realtek ALC892 7.1 audio controller.

Here are links to the items in anyone needs more info:

Whenever I plug in the microphone, the speakers stop working. They come back automatically when the microphone is removed. I'd like to find the reason for this and find a way that I can have both items running at the same time.

My only thought thus far is that my microphone is somehow confusing the integrated audio controller and comes across as a speak connection, nulling the other speakers.

If this is the case, I suppose I'd have to buy a discrete sound card to run my speakers, so that they wouldn't conflict. I'd rather not have to buy anything else though.

Thanks
