Hello everyone. I have a few questions regarding a new monitor I just purchased recently.

I didn’t want to have to do it, but it was time for the good old AOC to go, but her passing couldn’t have been at a worse time. I had just lost my job and needed to get something nice but as affordable as I possibly could. That’s how I ended up with the Acer SB220Q bi 22” IPS display for about $89.

Immediately upon receiving it I noticed some prominent backlight bleed but it’s not anything major. Though, major to me is different than it is to a lot of people. The bleed bugs me quite a bit, even though it’s just a little bit in the corner.

After seeing mine, my grandfather decided to order the same monitor and holy crap does it make mine look perfect. The backlight bleed on it is terrible in comparison, not to mention even more noticeable glow and a red stuck pixel right in the center of the screen.

I realize we’re talking about bargain basement monitors at this price. Should I stop being a baby and just live with the little bit of bleed I have, or send it back and play the LCD lottery again to try to get something just a bit better...even though getting something like the abomination my grandfather received is a definite possibility.

Solution
If you send your monitor back, you will almost certainly get a worse one.

If I was your grandfather I would return the unit and get it exchanged immediately. If he waits too long he may not be able to.

As far as back light bleed, it's almost unavoidable with current technology. So if you are suffering from very minor back light, I'd suggest just trying to get used to it. Different panel types will exhibit less bleed but will also have viewing angle and color problems.
1.
Is it really backlight bleed or IPS glow?
Backlight bleed is lottery. IPS glow will always there for IPS monitors.
Backlight bleed is not effected by the viewing angle, if the effect you saw changes with viewing angle, you see IPS glow.

2.
Now, you should send it back or not, if it is really backlight bleed?
Is the backlight bleed really bad? How bad?
How is the actually discount compared to a new street price for that monitor?
a.k.a. how good the deal was and if you can live with it?
Answer these 2 question for yourself and then take decision. There should be a cause for each basement bargain items.

It’s definutely not IPS glow. It’s bleed right at the very bottom corner. Though the glow and the bleed definitely team up to make it look worse than it is.

I’ve read that a lot of the cheaper monitors have a lot more bleed than their more expensive counterparts. For the price I paid, which was fill MSRP for the monitor, I still feel like it is a fine display and will be keeping it. I’ll have to avoid just looking down and left it appears.

As for my grandfather’s display Ive tried and tried to get him to get a replacement but he can’t see any of the issues and refuses to budge: Whatever I guess~

Backlight bleed is also always there but on best case, it is not visible to naked eyes.
If you use a camera with long exposure, you will be able to catch them all...like Pokemon

On most cases (good cases), it is visible for naked eyes only on dark background/scenes in dark room.

Anything worse than the good cases will relate to your sensitivity to such stuffs and how bad it really is :)
