question about BIOS

recently i bought a brand new hdd that was going into bsod randomly. i returned it and got a new one, same problem persisted. so i tried resetting the bios and away goes the problem. any ideas why the bsod happened ?

You mean you reset the CMOS.

A prior configuration was incompatible with your new HD. Reset to factory placed it in a "benign" state, erasing all tweaks, all overclock, everything you may had done to make things "faster."
