[SOLVED] Question about checking authenticity of Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCIe Gen 4..

I ordered the Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCIe Gen 4 from ebay pretty cheap, but didn't realize my Aorus Motherboard is only PCIe Gen 3. I know it's backward compatible but only with the Gen3 speeds..

My question is, if I put the M.2 Gen 4 in the slot, will Samsung magician still be able to authenticate the hardware?

It probably should.
Only way to know is to try.

How cheap is "cheap"?

$320 for the MZ-V8P2T0B/AM. About the same as it was for that flash sale on Newegg but no tax. Seller has good history but under 1K ratingss.

Assuming USA, they are currently $369 at Newegg/Amazon/Bestbuy.

I certainly wouldn't buy a technically used device to save $40 on fleabay.


But, Samsung Magician will probably be able to tell fake or real.

If you didn't buy from a valid retailer, it is technically 'used'.

Absent a valid proof of sale, the warranty on it starts from the date it was manufacturered, not the date you bought it.

I just wanted to confirm that Samsung Magician will check authentication for Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCIe Gen 4 on a PCIe Gen 3 slot, for anyone wondering.
