Question about computer parts

Now i think this is going to sound like a really dumb question and I'm sorry about asking it but could i buy separate PC parts at different points in time, example: CPU, Motherboard, Ram sticks, ETC. And keep them in their box for a month or two until i can afford other parts of the build Example: GPU, CPU cooler, Case ETC. OR, Now here's where the stupid question comes in... Will the parts in their boxes (CPU, Motherboard) degrade or break over time?

They won't degrade in the box but the warranty starts when you buy them. Depending on how long you sit on them the selling prices may drop also.
