Hello everyone, I am sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this.

Basically I am video hoarder, youtube videos, documentaries, 4K Remux, old shows etc and I need to find a way to store all this for years and years, NAS is out of the question, because it is too expensive and I really don’t need to stream anything, then my best option would be a DAS? (Direct-Attached Storage). I currently have a 5 TB external hard drive with movies and videos on it and I just plug it into my Sony Bravia XR75X90KAEP and watch it using Kodi, because native TV player doesn’t even recognize some files and it takes literally 10ish of minutes to fully load them all. Kodi plays everything without problems. So my main question is if I just plug HDD to TV am I using best picture quality or are there bottlenecks? Would I need to plug HDD to something like Nvidia Shield Pro?
I have gaming PC which I almost don’t use anymore because I bought Xbox Series X, could I turn PC into “HTPC”? I7 9700k, 32GB Ram, RTX 2080 ( I still play games, but not much, I use it more to edit videos and things like that, the problem is it only has space for 2 HDDs, so again would DAS be better option? Also if I would use PC then I would need to buy 20-25 meters of HDMI to run it to the TV. My current setup is provided on the picture, PC, router, then from router to gigabit switch and from that switch, ethernet to Xbox and TV. I am really confused about all that… I would probably buy Seagate EXOS drives and put same data on both drives incase one dies. I just want to store large amounts of data and play it on TV as fast as possible, especially I want to watch Remux videos without any quality loss. Yes I complicated this but I am really a newbie to all this 🙁
Really thanks to everyone who can help me, or even show some alternatives I am not aware of.

EDIT: Forgot to add that that I would also use Plex or Jellyfin to make my videos library look organized.

this must be related to the age or the quality of the TV.

my LG CX will play any video in any format,
but our older LG TV seems to only play x264 compressed video.

i have ~10TB of video data.

i keep most of it on an 8TB external USB drive as permanent storage.

i keep the important files(home video, etc) copied/backed up on a separate 3TB SATA drive that stays seated in an external dock.

the rest stays on one of my internal PC drives until i am ready to watch it and decide how\if i am going to keep them.

i use an external 2TB drive for portable temporary storage;
video i want to watch on one of our TVs, take to a friend/family member's home, etc.
so each time i want to watch something i just make sure it's ready to go on the 2TB and then plug it in.

if you are looking to avoid carrying around a USB drive and moving it from place to place when you want to watch or load something new onto it;
for a permanent storage solution for your entire library you would probably want to look at wireless options.

that depends on the TV in question.
if it has good decoding software, good screen setup options, and good screen quality then it will be as good or even better than the average PC/monitor setup.
