Okay so weird question I guess. I got a pc built and delivered to me. The monitor I ordered come with only a vga cable.
Now I have a ryzen 1500x and a b350 mobo in the build. The gpu didn't have vga output, only a dvi.The mobo has both. Neither the system or the monitor came with a vga to dvi converter. So I figured I could temporarily get video output from the mobo (I'm assuming there is on board graphics since the mobo has video output). But I'm not getting anything on the monitor. The seller assured me that they tested the build before sending.

So my question is does the mobo not give video output from onboard if there is a dedicated gpu installed or something? Or am I missing something obvious.

Did you just buy this monitor? I would rather get an HDMI/DisplayPort cable if your monitor supports it, rather than buying an adapter. Let us know what the monitor model is and we can tell you what cable you need.
Correct. You will have to remove the dedicated GPU to get video output from mobo ports. Also you'll have to install the required drivers for the on-board graphics. Unfortunately for you, the Ryzen 1500X does NOT have integrated graphics ulike most Intel processors. You will have to order a converter.

Model of GPU and monitor please?

Oh thank you that's a relief to know. I was worried if there is something wrong with the build itself.

Graphics card is a gtx 1060 and monitor is a Samsung 18.5 inch one. Don't remember the exact model number right now.
