So I recently purchased the Acer Xg270HU monitor with 144hz, 1440p and Freesync capability. I have a R9 290. I have the Crimson AMD software installed. I open up the software and enable Freesync. When I launch a game like CS GO I still got close to 300 FPS. My buddy who has a GSync monitor says his is limited to 144. Is Freesync supposed to do the sane thing? I went and created a profile for CS GO and set the FRTC to 144 then was getting consistent 141 FPS. Im just curious if I'm doing this right or if there's something I'm missing. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Solution
Freesync has the option to either enable or disable vsync once you go over the vrr range. Unless something has changed recently with gysnc, vsync is forced on once you exceed the vrr range. Effectively capping you at 144fps.

In a game like csgo I would disable FRTC and vsync because of input lag, but that's just preference.
