Hello, I am purchasing a second gtx 470 gpu today. I was wondering which slot should I put the second card into. I DO have 2 PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, but they are directly next to eachother and could cause heat issues. I also have a standard PCIe x16 slot. Which slot should my second card go into?

Sorry for not including more info. Link to mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131665 . I have an i7 950, an Asus sabertooth x58 mobo, 6gb of Gskill Pi series ram with a cas of 7-8-7-24 at 1600 mhz, a Gskill Sniper 120gb ssd, a 640 gb HDD for storage, Coolermaster Silent pro M 1000 Watt PSU, Coolermaster Storm Sniper case, 23" LG 2ms response 1920x1080 monitor. I am hearing alot of problems with the main GPU overheating when you sli 470's on a 2 PCIe 2.0 x16 slot board. Both slots are located directly next to eachother, so the main gpu will be gasping for air. I am thinking about investing in a thermaltake 760 big water and buying a Dangerden waterblock for my main gpu, and include it into the loop.

It appears that you have the same case as me. The Sniper is well suited for multi-card setups because of the side panel fan. I would also recommend putting a 140mm fan in the bottom fan slot, as it helped a lot in cooling my GPU. You should have no problems setting-up a multicard configuration. However, There are two things that I would like to point out:

1) Please make sure that your current PSU can supply enopugh wattage for the two cards. It would also help us a lot if you publish your hardware configuration through your profile on Tom's Hardware. Please include a link for your PSU as you've done with the case.

2) You might want to read the article that discusses the micro-stuttering phenomenon associated with multicard setups before making a decision to dive into the world of SLI
