Question About Horiz and Vert Hold Settings for LCD Monitors

I want to buy a 24" 1920x1200 LCD monitor. Does anybody know what 24" LCD monitors have Horizontal Hold and Vertical Hold settings?

I know that a variety of LCD monitors have Horiz and Vert Position settings, but I don't care about that. I specifically want Horizontal and Vertical Hold settings.

LCD don't have V,H hold adjustment on the panel. The frequency is fix to 59 Hz, 60 Hz or 75 Hz same with the resolution. If you use PAL signal then the monitor should be PAL, Same goes with NTSC. There are Phase and Clock adjustment close to V & H hold but not the same.

The LCD works best on it's native resolution, unlike CRTs where you can adjust the res up to it's maximum. Some LCD panels won't work pass it's native resolution. so don't try getting it higher or you might not be able to switch your source back.

If the source did not output the right signal then your source has to be adjusted and not the monitor. Theres an auto detect/adjust on LDCs but it's not V/H hold aadjustment. So no Vertical , Horizontal Hold adjustment that I've seen so far.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I don't like the widescreen format. So I was hoping for a Horizontal Hold setting so that I could "squeeze" the horizontal smaller than from screen edge to screen edge. The 24" LCD I'm interested in is an Envision AOC 416V LCD that has 1920x1200 resolution (16:10). I hate the 16:9, so I want to use a Horizontal Hold setting to squeeze the horizontal to get as close to 16:12 as possible (which is the standard 4:3 that the CRT monitor I'm used to gives me).

But if no LCDs have Horizontal Hold, then I'm screwed and I'll just get the Envision AOC 416V (which seems like a pretty decent monitor other than no Horizontal Hold). Oh well.

Why not just get something like the Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP if you don't like widescreen? It's a 20" 1600x1200 panel that is a standard aspect ratio. Quite a nice panel too.

Basically what you are looking for is call "Aspect Control" or something similar.

For a 24" monitor you should select 1600 x 1200 as the monitor resolution, then go into the monitor's OSD and set "Aspect" to on. You will then have black bars on the left and right of the screen since those are considered "dead space". Not all monitors have aspect control.

As cjl stated, why not just look for a 20" monitor? It will have a native resolution of 1600 x 1200 and it will not waste any space on your desk.
