Greetings. A couple of days ago I purchased a Fujitsu s762 from a Refurbished Products vendor, and as I was going through the manual, in the maintenance section i found about the dust filter and how to clean it, however being an amateur at best when it comes to laptops I have no idea how the filter is supposed to be:

Is it supposed to have some sort of sponge like block in it? Or should I leave it as it is? I'm sorry if it's a dumb question, but I have no experience with laptops.
Thank you for your time.

Thanks, now I'm just wondering how thick the filter should be so it won't obstruct the fan emmisions

Considering that this review of a model in that laptop line has an image showing the "filter" empty as well, it's likely supposed to be that way...

Perhaps they put an actual filter of some sort in some models, but those might use a different internal cooling solution that works better with a filter. Or maybe they just keep the slot there to provide access for cleaning the heat sink. I would not try stuffing a sponge in there, or it might block airflow and cause things to overheat. Even something thin like speaker grill cloth might block airflow as soon as it collects enough dust.

I think this to be the case as well, but the manual confused me becauses it says " remove the filter cover(illustrating the thingy I posted) and clean or replace the dust filter(which doesn't specify what it is)". Well I guess I'll wait for a month then open it to see how much dust it has gathered.
